Her Dreams Were Different: A Story Of The Different World

Like every day when today Rani was crossing that big “hotel” on Park Street, she thought one day she will also go inside and sit at those chairs by crossing her leg. She regrets every day, why she hasn’t gone to school ever. She regrets it because she cant read the full name of the hotel properly. She has shown the name to her neighbor who stays in the opposite foot. He has studied till class 4 as his father used work at jute factory. He has said her that the name of the hotel is “flarys”. She trust his intellect and knowledge.

Rani goes to the metro rail site everyday. She works there as a helper. She carries stones and breaks them. 12 Rs per day. Her father has left them and he lives with some other people in some slums, she has no idea about. After the 4th child’s birth her mother has become very ill and she can’t work. She sleeps most of the day but cooks rice for the children. Rani is the elder one. Other brothers of her, they work in tea shops. They earn well. Rani used to work in a tea shop. But the owner’s behavior was very bad. He used to touch her so roughly. She remembers that sometimes she used to bleed from vagina. She has left that job. But she feels that there is some pain in her lower abdomen all the time. Mostly when she carries heavy stones.

Rani loves her mother. Her mother has two sarees. But both are in a very poor condition. Rani knows that in Durga Puja, every one buys some new cloth. Though they never bought it. But her mother is special to her, she wants to buy her a saree. She has found out a shop where the person has agreed in 100Rs one saree.

Rani saves 2 Rs every day. She has said her brothers and mother that she gets 10 Rs everyday. Yes she lied to them. She lies to herself every day and says “Kono byatha nei, kaj korte e hobe/ there is no pain Rani, you have to work.”

Pujo is 7 more days to go. She has checked her savings it is 94, so more 6 Rs to go.

She is walking very slowly today and she is wearing a small piece of cotton under her inner wear today. It is bleeding too much, and the pain is increasing from last night. She is worried if anybody comes to know what will happen. She is worried about the blood, why without wound she is bleeding. But she should go to work and make her savings to 100 Rs. Her mother will wear a new saree within some days.

She saw a small roadside temple and went inside. Folded her hands ans asked the god “please help me to earn this 6 Rs and stop this bleeding.” When she was praying she felt that she is bleeding again.
